Meatable brings industry leaders together to discuss sustainable meat production
On 13 February 2025, Meatable hosted a global summit at its headquarters in Leiden, The Netherlands, focusing on the future of sustainable meat production. The event brought together stakeholders from across the food sector, including policymakers, investors, and leaders from the meat industry, all with a shared commitment to building a more sustainable food system.
The summit provided a platform for in-depth discussions on how technological innovation can support the growth of cultivated meat and reduce the environmental impact of traditional meat production. Participants had the opportunity to tour Meatable's laboratory facilities, interact with its leadership and scientists, and sample cultivated meat products developed by the company.
The event was held under the theme 'Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Learning from the Great Inventors of Our Time', focusing on how past innovations can inform today’s solutions for sustainable protein production. Discussions explored how new technologies can accelerate the shift toward alternative proteins while meeting global food demands.
Key speakers included the Rt Hon Chris Skidmore, former UK Energy Minister and Chair of the Net Zero Review; Danielle Nierenberg, President of FoodTank, a US-based think tank; and Chef Andrew Hunter, who brought a culinary perspective to the conversation around cultivated meat’s potential.
A central theme that emerged from the summit was the critical role of collaboration in transforming the meat industry. Attendees highlighted that addressing the challenges of scaling cultivated meat production requires cooperation between regulators, investors, and industry leaders.
“Action is what drives real progress,” commented Jeff 'Trip' Tripician, CEO of Meatable. “By bringing together industry pioneers, we are forging partnerships that will shape the future of food.”
The summit facilitated meaningful dialogue between diverse stakeholders, laying the groundwork for future partnerships aimed at making sustainable meat production more accessible and scalable.
Sampling Meatable’s cultivated meat products during the summit served as a practical demonstration of how these alternatives could play a role in future food systems. The tastings provided a glimpse into how cultivated meat could meet consumer expectations without the environmental impact associated with conventional meat.
As the cultivated meat sector continues to grow, the summit underscored the need for strategic partnerships and regulatory support to scale production effectively. The event highlighted the progress made in the field so far and the work still required to bring cultivated meat to market at scale.
