The Definitive Guide to the 27 Food-Tech Companies Set to Shape 2027

what is PPTI's food techs to watch?

Every year, PPTI identifies the companies we believe are worth watching over the next 12 months across food technology and sustainable proteins. Last year, it was 26 Food Techs to Watch in 2026. This year, naturally, it’s 27 Food Techs to Watch in 2027.

The final 27 are selected through a combination of industry nominations, community voting and expert editorial assessment. Companies cannot pay to be included, and commercial relationships with PPTI have no bearing on the results.

We consider companies from across the global food technology and sustainable proteins ecosystem, spanning alternative proteins, fermentation, cell cultivation, functional ingredients and nutrition, food and beverage technologies, manufacturing and automation, digital and AI technologies, scale-up and infrastructure, food safety and analytics, and sustainability and circular technologies.

Each of the 27 selected companies receives dedicated editorial coverage in Protein Production Technology International, introducing its technology, progress and ambitions to our global audience of food-tech and sustainable protein professionals.

How It Works Works...

Our four-stage process combines industry nominations, expert assessment, community voting and editorial judgment.

  • Stage 1: Nominations
Companies can nominate themselves or be nominated by customers, investors, partners, members of the PPTI Editorial Advisory Board or other industry professionals.
  • Stage 2: Shortlist
Once nominations close, the PPTI editorial team will review all submissions and select a shortlist of 81 companies.
  • Stage 3: Industry voting
The shortlist will go to an industry vote, giving the food-tech and sustainable proteins community a say in which companies make the final 27.
  • Stage 4: Final selection
The final 27 will be determined using a weighted scoring system: 40% PPTI Editorial Advisory Board, 40% industry vote and 20% PPTI editorial team.
