Marsapet introduces first dog food featuring FeedKind Pet protein
Marsapet has launched the first-ever complete dog food featuring FeedKind Pet protein, a cultured protein developed by Calysta. This innovative protein source is produced through fermentation without using arable land or animal ingredients, providing an environmentally sustainable alternative for pet nutrition.
The new product, MicroBell dry kibble, is part of Marsapet’s Marsavet line, which focuses on animal health. Designed as a vegan, grain-free, and gluten-free pet food, MicroBell contains all essential amino acids necessary for maintaining canine health. Key ingredients include sweet potatoes, peas, FeedKind protein, and potatoes, making it particularly suitable for dogs with allergies or sensitive stomachs.
Calysta’s Vice President of Global Sales, Herman Sloot, highlighted the significance of the launch, stating: “Marsapet are true innovators in the industry, and with MicroBell, they’re introducing both the first pet food to use FeedKind Pet protein and a new choice for pet parents who want to give their dogs high-quality protein that does not impact the planet’s biodiversity.”
He further emphasized that this launch is just the beginning, with more pet foods expected to incorporate FeedKind Pet protein in the near future. “Calysta and its partners have the largest production capacity of any alternative protein in the world, and it’s here now. Most importantly, we are producing an ingredient with industry-leading nutrition, palatability, and postbiotic benefits—all without using arable land. It’s a game-changer for the pet food sector.”

FeedKind Pet, which is non-GMO, recently received official vegan accreditation from Swiss-based V-Label, allowing it to be included across vegetarian and vegan product ranges. The protein is approved for sale in the EU, UK, Canada, and several other countries, with Calysta expecting to achieve US GRAS status for pet food later this year.
Marcel Hoffmann, CEO of Marsapet, described the launch as a major milestone in the company’s commitment to innovation in pet nutrition. “We have always been pioneers in pet nutrition, and launching the first-ever dog food featuring FeedKind Pet protein is a truly special milestone for us,” Hoffmann said. “This project is a labor of love, and we have poured our hearts into bringing this groundbreaking product to market. With MicroBell, we are setting new standards in sustainable, high-quality pet food, offering pet owners a nutritious, innovative alternative without compromising on quality or taste.”
MicroBell is now available in European pet food stores and online.
FeedKind is a cultured protein produced through a natural fermentation process. It is created by fermenting land-free carbon, requiring no animal or plant ingredients and using minimal water. Calysta’s joint venture with Adisseo, Calysseo, currently has the capacity to produce 20,000 tons of FeedKind ingredients per year. Compared to traditional livestock and crop farming, FeedKind’s production method occupies a much smaller footprint, making it an attractive option for pet food manufacturers seeking to scale production sustainably.
Calysta, headquartered in San Mateo, California, is a large-scale protein producer committed to enhancing food security through fermentation-based protein innovation. The company’s goal is to create sustainable protein solutions that add to the global food supply without depleting natural resources.
