Liberation Labs secures US$50.5 million to complete precision fermentation facility in Indiana
Liberation Labs has secured US$50.5 million in new funding to advance the completion of its first commercial-scale biomanufacturing facility in Richmond, Indiana. The latest funding round includes US$31.5 million in new capital and US$19 million from insider bridge notes raised in 2024, bringing the company’s total private capital raised to US$71.5 million.
The convertible note round was backed by NEOM Investment Fund (NIF), Galloway Limited, and Meach Cove Capital, alongside continued support from existing investors Agronomics, New Agrarian Capital, and Siddhi Capital. These funds, alongside public sector awards and loan guarantees, bring Liberation Labs’ total deployable capital to US$125.5 million.
Liberation Labs is constructing a 600,000-liter biomanufacturing facility designed specifically for precision fermentation. The site includes a fully dedicated downstream process (DSP) to support the production of bio-based ingredients for food, chemicals, and industrial applications.
“This funding validates our team, technology, and commercial strategy,” commented Mark Warner, Founder & CEO of Liberation Labs. “With strong support from new and existing investors, we are on track to complete construction and launch operations in 2025, helping to fill a critical supply gap for precision fermentation in the USA.”
The company has also secured US$30 million in equipment financing, a US$25 million US Department of Agriculture loan guarantee, and a US$1.39 million award from the US Department of Defense (DoD) to assess the feasibility of a 4,000,000-liter flexible-use bioindustrial manufacturing facility adjacent to its current site. If approved for the next phase, Liberation Labs could receive up to US$100 million in additional funding to expand US bioindustrial manufacturing capacity.
“Liberation Labs is creating next-generation fermentation infrastructure that will help scale precision fermentation proteins to industrial levels,” commented Jim Mellon, Director of Agronomics. “This facility will play a key role in meeting the rising demand for bio-based materials across industries.”
By combining modern bioprocessing technology with purpose-built infrastructure, Liberation Labs aims to increase capacity, lower production costs, and accelerate market adoption of precision fermentation-derived ingredients.
