ProVeg China and Jiangnan University unite 10,000 experts and researchers through NeoProtein webinar series
ProVeg China and Jiangnan University have completed a three-part national webinar series that attracted more than 10,000 participants, marking the first major initiative of their newly established NeoProtein Innovation Center of Excellence (CoE).
• ProVeg China and Jiangnan University concluded a three-part webinar series attended by more than 10,000 participants.
• The webinars focused on the Top 10 Technical Challenges in NeoProtein 2025 Blue Paper and its research priorities.
• The initiative supported collaboration between academia, industry and policymakers through the new NeoProtein Innovation Center of Excellence.
The webinar series centered on the Top 10 Technical Challenges in NeoProtein 2025 Blue Paper, jointly developed by the NeoProtein Professional Committee of the China Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) and ProVeg China with contributions from 48 experts.
Described as China's first expert-backed roadmap for NeoProtein research and development, the Blue Paper identifies the scientific and technical challenges considered most important for advancing the sector. It is intended to help align research efforts, guide public research and development priorities, and inform future investment across China's alternative protein ecosystem.
According to ProVeg China, the publication has already influenced research discussions within academia and government, helped shape public R&D priorities, and encouraged new research investment in the country's NeoProtein sector.
The webinar series translated the priorities outlined in the Blue Paper into discussions involving many of China's leading scientists and industry specialists working across plant protein, microbial protein and cultivated protein.
By bringing together researchers, universities, industry representatives and innovation partners, the organizers said the webinars encouraged knowledge sharing and cross-sector collaboration aimed at addressing some of the industry's most pressing technical challenges.
The series also represented the first flagship activity of the NeoProtein Innovation Center of Excellence, which ProVeg China and Jiangnan University established earlier this year as a long-term partnership.
The Center of Excellence has been created to support research collaboration, technology translation, talent development and international exchange. Combining Jiangnan University's expertise in food science with ProVeg China's work in building the country's alternative protein ecosystem, the partnership aims to strengthen links between research institutions, industry and policymakers.
Looking ahead, ProVeg China and Jiangnan University said they will continue bringing together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders and innovation partners to help translate scientific priorities into collaborative research projects, public investment and commercial innovation.
The organizations said they aim to strengthen China's NeoProtein innovation ecosystem while supporting the development of more sustainable and resilient food systems.
Readers interested in the technical discussions can access recaps of all three webinars, which summarize the key insights and perspectives shared by participating experts.
