Vandemoortele to acquire Bunge’s European margarines and spreads business
Belgian food group Vandemoortele has signed an agreement to acquire the European Margarines and Spreads operations of Bunge, marking a significant expansion of its Plant-Based Food Solutions division.
The business being acquired generates over €450 million (approximately US$487 million) in annual turnover and employs more than 800 people across production facilities in Germany, Poland, and Finland. It includes a portfolio of 20 brands.
“This acquisition offers an interesting geographic complementarity,” said Yvon Guerin, CEO of Vandemoortele. “We already serve a strong customer base in Western and Southern Europe with high-quality and innovative plant-based products. Now, we can expand our presence in Central Eastern Europe and Scandinavia too.”
The move supports Vandemoortele’s goal to lead in the shift toward plant-based foods. “We aspire to be a frontrunner in the plant-based food transition,” said Jean Vandemoortele, Chairman of the Board. “Not only in margarine and plant-based oils and fats, but also in sauces, vinaigrettes and dressings, vegetable creams and plant-based cheese.”
