Thousands vote as race for PPTI’s 27 Food-Techs to Watch heats up

Public voting is underway for Protein Production Technology International’s 27 Food-Techs to Watch in 2027, with more than 20,000 ballots cast in the opening stages of the campaign.

The response since voting opened has been significant. More than 20,000 ballots have been submitted, representing over 100,000 individual company selections.

Voters are asked to select between five and 10 companies they believe should be included in PPTI’s final 27, and the early results have already produced considerable movement across the field.

PPTI Editor Nick Bradley said the level of engagement had exceeded expectations. “We knew there was a lot of interest after receiving 379 nominations, but the response to the public vote has been incredible,” Bradley said. “What has surprised me most is how quickly things can change. We have seen companies make substantial moves in a very short space of time once they start getting behind their campaigns.”

Despite the volume of votes already cast, PPTI will not publish live rankings or individual company totals while voting remains open.

“We deliberately don’t want to turn this into a running league table,” Bradley added. “There are 81 very different companies on the shortlist and still plenty of time for things to change. Looking at the results today, I certainly wouldn’t assume we already know who the final 27 will be.”

The public vote accounts for 40% of the final result. PPTI’s Editorial Advisory Board contributes a further 40%, with the remaining 20% determined by the PPTI editorial team.

The system is intended to balance the reach and enthusiasm generated by the public vote with an industry and editorial assessment of the companies on the shortlist.

Public voting remains open until 11:59pm BST on October 23, 2026.

The final 27 Food-Techs to Watch in 2027 will be announced on stage at The Future of Protein Production Amsterdam on November 4-5, before all 27 are profiled in PPTI’s Q4 2026 edition, published on December 16.
