Plantish rebrands as Oshi, unveiling global ambitions in plant-based seafood

June 13, 2023

In a significant move that marks a milestone in its strategic transformation, pioneering company Plantish has announced its rebranding as Oshi. Known for its revolutionary plant-based salmon created through patent-pending additive manufacturing technology, Oshi is gearing up to establish itself as a global food company and is preparing for its highly anticipated product launch in the USA later this year. With a funding total of US$14.5 million to date, Oshi has attracted notable investors like Unovis, the backers of successful companies such as Beyond Meat and Oatly.

The decision to rebrand as Oshi reflects the company’s ambition to become a leading global seafood company. The name 'Oshi' is derived from the word 'Ocean' and symbolizes Oshi’s commitment to delivering exceptional seafood products that resonate with consumers worldwide. With a focus on sustainability and a dedication to offering delicious alternatives to conventional seafood, Oshi aims to transform the plant-based seafood market.

One of the key differentiators of Oshi’s plant-based seafood is its emphasis on whole-cut forms, particularly whole-cut plant-based salmon. Traditionally, the alternative seafood market has primarily focused on minced fish varieties like fish fingers and fried fish, leaving a gap for whole-cut alternatives. Oshi’s proprietary additive manufacturing technology has overcome the technical complexities associated with whole-cut production, allowing the company to introduce innovative and sustainable plant-based seafood options.

“By rebranding to Oshi, we are embarking on a transformative journey to position ourselves as a leading global seafood company," commented Ofek Ron, Co-Founder & CEO of Oshi. "Our new name reflects our values and commitment to delivering exceptional seafood products that resonate with consumers worldwide.”

Oshi has already made significant progress in its expansion plans. The company aims to enter the US restaurant market by the end of this year, and it is collaborating with esteemed chefs and restaurants to perfect its product offerings ahead of the anticipated launch. Additionally, Oshi has secured a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coop, one of Europe’s largest retailers, to distribute Oshi salmon fillets starting in 2025. The partnership with Coop Group aims to offer customers a sustainable and high-quality alternative to conventional salmon.

Founded in March 2021, Oshi has quickly established itself as a groundbreaking foodtech company specializing in plant-based seafood. The company’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and culinary excellence has attracted notable partners, including Michelin chefs, cookbook author Adeena Sussman, and content creator Nuseir Yassin from Nas Daily.

With its rebranding to Oshi and its focus on whole-cut plant-based seafood, the company is poised to disrupt the alternative seafood market. Through its additive manufacturing technology, Oshi aims to provide consumers with sustainable and delicious seafood options that contribute to a safer and more environmentally friendly future. As the world’s demand for seafood continues to grow, Oshi’s innovative approach represents a promising step towards a more sustainable food system.
