PlantBaby secures Series Seed funding to expand plant-based nutrition

February 18, 2025

PlantBaby, a pioneering company dedicated to creating innovative solutions in the plant-based nutrition space, has successfully closed its Series Seed equity financing round. Led by B2 Partners, the round secured a post-money valuation of US$20 million. This significant investment will enable PlantBaby to expand retail distribution, accelerate product innovation, and continue growing its team.

"PlantBaby represents the kind of forward-thinking, mission-driven company we look to support at B2 Partners," commented Matt Behrens, Founder of B2 Partners. "Their commitment to creating clean, plant-based nutrition solutions aligns perfectly with our belief in backing businesses that prioritize both health and sustainability. We're proud to contribute to their journey and help them reach even more families in need of innovative nutrition options."

B2 Partners led the seed round and will join PlantBaby's board, with additional support from Big Idea Ventures, Everywhere Ventures, X Factor Ventures, Women's Equity Lab Silicon Valley, and Babylist. This coalition of investors brings further momentum to PlantBaby’s growth.

With the new funding, PlantBaby aims to make its products more widely accessible through major retailers such as Sprouts and Wegmans, as well as online platforms including Amazon, Thrive, and the company’s own Kiki Milk website built on Shopify. The funding will also support research and development efforts to introduce new plant-based products beyond milk.

"We became acquainted with B2 Partners through an introduction by one of our early investors," added Alex and Lauren Abelin, Co-Founders of PlantBaby. "Their decision to lead this funding round underscores their confidence in PlantBaby's vision and potential. We're thrilled to join forces with such an excellent and thoughtful partner."

PlantBaby was founded by Alex and Lauren Abelin following the birth of their son, Alakai. Frustrated by the lack of clean-label and dairy-free infant formula options, the couple set out to create products they could trust. Their mission is to support families, particularly the 50% of children with chronic health conditions, by providing nourishing, plant-based alternatives.

PlantBaby’s flagship product, Kiki Milk, first launched in 2020 with Original and Chocolate flavors. It has since expanded to include Mac Nut and Unsweetened varieties. Unlike other plant-based milks, Kiki Milk is crafted using more than six whole food ingredients, free from seed oils, gums, artificial flavors, and preservatives. The product is certified USDA Organic and glyphosate-residue free, offering 5g of protein per serving along with a rich source of calcium derived from sprouted pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, and Aquamin™. To ensure the highest safety and quality, all varieties undergo rigorous third-party testing for heavy metals and mold.

"Improving the health of future generations is our North Star as both parents and entrepreneurs," said Alex and Lauren Abelin. "We're committed to providing the cleanest, most nutritious, and delicious products—for your family and ours—because every child deserves the best."
