Osborne Clarke advises EnjoyVenture on Kynda’s €3 million seed funding round

March 12, 2025

Osborne Clarke has played a key role in advising EnjoyVenture on its €3 million (US$3.3 million) seed financing round for Kynda, a German biotech start-up specializing in fermentation-based mycoproteins. The investment, led by EnjoyVenture’s Invest-Impuls Scale Fund, was joined by the PHW Group and Clima Now, marking an important step in Kynda’s expansion and innovation efforts in the alternative protein sector.

Kynda, founded in 2019 by Daniel MacGowan and Franziskus Schnabel, develops sustainable protein ingredients by converting food industry by-products into mycoproteins using fermentation technology. The funding will support the expansion of Kynda’s facility in Jelmstorf, scheduled to open later this year, enabling the company to scale up production and further develop its high-protein, fiber-rich ingredients for food and animal feed applications.

Osborne Clarke provided comprehensive legal support to EnjoyVenture, ensuring a smooth and strategic investment process. The firm’s advisory team was led by Fabian Mimberg and Dr Benjamin Monheim, with contributions from Victor Robertz (Corporate/VC), Christoph Boeminghaus and Nikolaos Xenidis (Commercial), and Dr Johannes Graf Ballestrem and Robert Briske (IP).

The legal expertise of Osborne Clarke was instrumental in structuring the financing round, aligning investor interests, and facilitating Kynda’s next phase of growth. EnjoyVenture, which focuses on German seed and Series A startups, has backed over 200 companies with its investment funds, reinforcing its commitment to high-growth ventures in emerging markets.

“We are excited to partner with PHW Group, one of Europe’s largest meat producers,” said EnjoyVenture’s team. “Together, we aim to leverage Kynda’s innovative fermentation technology and PHW’s industry expertise to drive sustainable solutions and create new opportunities in the alternative protein space.”

The PHW Group, a major player in poultry and alternative proteins, and Clima Now, a climate-focused impact investor, have also contributed to Kynda’s funding, signaling growing confidence in fermentation-based protein solutions. Mycoproteins are increasingly recognized for their sustainability, high nutritional value, and versatility in food applications.

Osborne Clarke’s role in advising EnjoyVenture on this investment highlights the firm’s expertise in venture capital, particularly in biotech and sustainable food technologies. With the alternative protein market rapidly evolving, this financing round positions Kynda for significant expansion, contributing to the broader shift toward sustainable food production.
