Livvie launches plant-based impact calculator to help businesses measure food system change

May 5, 2026

Livvie has launched Livvie Business, a plant-based impact calculator designed to help organizations quantify the environmental, animal welfare and human health outcomes of reducing animal-based food consumption.

Livvie has launched a web-based calculator that measures 22 impact parameters linked to plant-based food initiatives.
The tool uses simple inputs such as meal numbers, food weight and participants to estimate environmental and societal outcomes.
Livvie Business is available globally with free and paid options for companies, caterers, non-profits and sustainability teams.

The Eindhoven-based company introduced the software on 14 April, describing it as a way to make impact data more accessible for organizations that are expanding plant-forward menus or running dietary change programs.

As plant-based initiatives become more common across corporate sustainability strategies and foodservice operations, many organizations have struggled to measure outcomes beyond greenhouse gas emissions. Existing approaches often rely on detailed life-cycle assessments or supply chain analysis, which can be costly and resource-intensive.

Livvie Business was developed to address that gap. The tool allows users to input basic data points such as the number of meals served, the weight of food or the number of participants in a program. It then calculates potential impacts across 22 parameters, covering environmental, animal welfare and human health indicators.

The model includes metrics such as water footprint, land use, deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, animal lives and antimicrobial use, providing a broader view of the effects of dietary shifts.

“Moving towards plant-based food is often discussed in terms of a lower carbon footprint, but the benefits and the reasons people choose plant-based go well beyond that,” said Johanna van Langen, PhD, Co-founder of Livvie. “We built Livvie Business so organizations can easily calculate the outcomes their stakeholders and customers care about – helping them make decisions, communicate impact, and build support for initiatives.”

The company said the software takes local dietary context into account, allowing organizations to generate more relevant estimates based on regional consumption patterns.

Livvie Business is aimed at a range of users, including restaurants, caterers, corporate sustainability teams and non-profits. It can be used to evaluate initiatives such as introducing more vegetarian or vegan menu options, running plant-based challenges or implementing broader food system transition programs.

By simplifying the process of quantifying impact, the company said it aims to enable more organizations to track performance over time and communicate results to stakeholders without requiring specialist analytical resources.

The application is web-based and available globally, with both free and paid tiers. Livvie indicated that the platform is designed to support decision-making as well as reporting, helping organizations understand the wider implications of changes in food sourcing and menu design.

Livvie’s launch builds on its earlier tools, including an impact calculator app for consumers and a plant-based business and event directory. The company said its broader mission is to support the transition toward more sustainable and plant-based food systems by making data and insights more accessible.

With increasing focus on measurable sustainability outcomes across the food sector, Livvie Business adds a tool aimed at bridging the gap between high-level commitments and quantifiable results tied to everyday food choices.
