Green Boy Group has opened an office in Charlotte, North Carolina, and appointed William Mabry as Commercial Director, East Coast, to expand its coverage of food manufacturers across the South and on the East Coast.

Mabry joins the plant-based ingredient supplier with more than three decades of food industry experience, having previously served as Vice President of Atlantic Ingredients. He will lead the Charlotte operation, which joins Green Boy’s existing US offices in Los Angeles and Chicago.

“We are delighted with this development, it only makes sense to open up a new office in Charlotte next to our Los Angeles and Chicago locations,” says Peter van Dijken, Green Boy Co-Founder and Owner. “Now we are able to cover the South and East Coast market more effectively for our customers and we could not have found a better skilled and more experienced person within the food industry to head this office than William”.

The announcement, made on October 27, adds a third US location to Green Boy’s international network. Founded in 2016 by van Dijken and fellow Co-Founder and Owner Frederik Otten, the company supplies plant-based, non-GMO and organic food ingredients, specializing in functional ingredients for food manufacturers.

Alongside its three US locations, Green Boy has offices in Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Sydney. The Charlotte operation extends that network into the southeastern US, with the company identifying closer commercial coverage of the South and East Coast as the reason for the opening.

“Charlotte’s got a lot,” says Otten. “And this especially counts for Green Boy. It enables us to operate in all time zones in the US and better service our customers regardless of their locations statewide. Under the wings of William we can further nurture our growth trajectory in the US”.

Mabry’s appointment brings commercial experience to a portfolio that includes proteins, sugar replacers and fibers. Green Boy said his leadership would support its US growth strategy and its relationships with manufacturers as requirements for functional food ingredients evolve.

“I was very excited when Green Boy approached me for this role,” says Mabry. “Green Boy is at the forefront of supplying added value and functional food ingredients, be it sugar replacers, proteins or fibers. They know what they are doing in terms of secured supply chain and having a global presence. I wanted to be part of the Green Boy leadership team and contribute to their expansion in the US in an impactful way”.

Green Boy’s customers range from emerging startups to multinational food businesses. Its services include ingredient sourcing, the execution of long-term, large-volume contracts and supply chain management, supporting manufacturers purchasing ingredients through its international network.

The company’s protein portfolio includes pea, rice, mung bean, fava bean, chickpea, pumpkin, potato and sunflower proteins. Textured pea protein is available in formats including crisps, granules, strips and chunks, providing options for manufacturers working with different finished-product formats.

It also offers four application-specific protein lines: Plant-Meat Protein, Plant-Dairy Protein, Plant-Drink Protein and Plant-Bake Protein. These are aimed at manufacturers developing meat alternatives, dairy alternatives, beverages and baked products, with a focus on texture, taste and mouthfeel.

According to Green Boy’s product information, its functional plant-based protein powders use crops grown in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. Its ingredient offering also includes starches, syrups, sweeteners, fibers, flours and oils, allowing it to supply several components used within a formulation.

Among its fiber ingredients are inulin, tapioca fiber, pea fiber and potato fiber. Its flour range includes mung bean, fava bean, chickpea and cassava flours, while its syrups serve applications including bakery products, snack bars, soft drinks, ice cream and confectionery.

Sugar reduction is another part of the portfolio Mabry highlighted. Green Boy supplies polydextrose for manufacturers seeking to replace some of the bulk and functionality provided by sugar while adding fiber. Its tapioca fiber offering targets products including nutrition bars, baked goods, beverages, dairy alternatives and confectionery.

The Charlotte announcement comes in Green Boy’s tenth year of operation. Mabry will head the new office as the company develops its commercial presence across the South and East Coast.
