Dyadic expands precision-fermented dairy pipeline with new European biotech licensing agreement

Dyadic International has expanded its precision-fermented dairy portfolio through a new development and commercial license agreement with an unnamed European biotechnology company to develop additional non-animal dairy proteins.

The agreement added to the company's existing dairy portfolio, which already included recombinant bovine chymosin and recombinant bovine alpha-lactalbumin programs.
Dyadic said the deal could generate development payments, licensing revenue and commercial participation linked to successful commercialization.

The Florida-based biotechnology company announced that the agreement broadened its food and nutrition pipeline while supporting its strategy of generating recurring revenue through development partnerships, licensing agreements and commercial participation.

Financial terms and the identity of the European biotechnology partner were not disclosed.

The new program built on Dyadic's existing non-animal dairy portfolio, which included the commercial launch of recombinant bovine chymosin through Inzymes ApS and the ongoing development of recombinant bovine alpha-lactalbumin with BRIG BIO.

The company said all three programs relied on its Dapibus precision fermentation platform, which was designed to develop and manufacture recombinant food proteins and enzymes using microbial fermentation processes and existing industrial fermentation infrastructure.

Under the agreement, Dyadic said it could receive development and commercial milestone payments, licensing-related revenue and additional economic participation tied to successful commercialization.

The company said demand for animal-free dairy ingredients continued to grow as food manufacturers sought ingredients that matched the taste, functionality and nutritional characteristics of conventional dairy while offering more sustainable production routes.

According to Dyadic, the proteins covered by the new agreement were intended for a broad range of food and nutrition applications, with the aim of improving functionality, texture and nutritional performance in next-generation food ingredients.

Joe Hazelton, President & Chief Operating Officer of Dyadic Applied BioSolutions, said the agreement further strengthened the company's commercialization strategy.

"This agreement represents another important step in expanding Dyadic's commercial food and nutrition pipeline," said Hazelton. "Together with the commercialization of recombinant bovine chymosin through our partnership with Inzymes ApS and our ongoing bovine alpha-lactalbumin collaboration with BRIG BIO, we are building a diversified pipeline of precision-fermented dairy proteins and enzymes."

He added: "Dapibus enables us to rapidly develop and efficiently manufacture new food proteins using established microbial fermentation infrastructure, while our commercialization model creates opportunities for development revenue, licensing, commercial participation and future product sales. Each new program further strengthens the Dapibus platform as a repeatable engine for commercial growth."

The program will now move into strain optimization, process development and commercial scale-up, with Dyadic continuing to expand its food and nutrition activities through strategic partnerships.

The company said the agreement also reflected its broader strategy of applying its proprietary microbial expression platforms across food, nutrition, bioindustrial and biopharmaceutical markets to create multiple commercial revenue streams.
