DMC Biotechnologies raises US$18 million to grow fermented health ingredients business
DMC Biotechnologies has secured US$18 million in financing to expand sales of its precision-fermented health ingredients and develop additional bioactives for the health, wellness and personal care markets.
• DMC raised US$18 million in financing co-led by Inceptional Partners and Sofinnova Partners, with participation from First Bight Ventures, Cibus Capital and Capricorn Partners.
• The company’s commercial KeyPura portfolio includes myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol for reproductive health, metabolic wellness, infant nutrition and specialty nutrition formulations.
• The investment will support customer adoption, distribution relationships and product development, following a North American distribution agreement announced in April.
Announced on October 26, the financing was co-led by Inceptional Partners and Sofinnova Partners, with participation from First Bight Ventures and existing investors Cibus Capital and Capricorn Partners. The Morrisville, North Carolina-based company said the capital would support commercialization of its KeyPura portfolio while funding development of further health and wellness ingredients.
DMC’s initial KeyPura products, myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol, are already commercially available. The company identifies applications across reproductive health, metabolic wellness, infant nutrition and other specialty nutrition formulations, with personal care also among its target markets.
“This investment marks an important next chapter for DMC as we build on the foundation we’ve established with our KeyPura ingredients,” said Jim Flatt, CEO of DMC Biotechnologies. “We’ve demonstrated our ability to develop and produce high-quality ingredients through precision fermentation. Now we’re focused on translating that capability into broader market adoption, new products and long-term commercial growth.”
The financing follows the introduction of both inositol ingredients in 2025 and a distribution agreement earlier this year. DMC launched fermented myo-inositol in May 2025, followed by D-chiro-inositol in July, establishing the initial products around which it is building its health ingredients business.
In April 2026, LBB Specialties announced an agreement to distribute DMC’s KeyPura fermented myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol in the United States and Canada. The arrangement covers human nutrition, food, personal care and life science markets, giving DMC a distribution channel serving several of the application areas targeted by the new investment.
DMC is promoting ingredient purity, batch consistency, traceability and dependable supply as reasons for formulators to adopt its products. On its website, the company describes KeyPura as bringing the two inositols together from a single controlled production source, with defined specifications and no solvents introduced during production. Those attributes form part of its commercial proposition to brands evaluating ingredient quality and sourcing.
The company said its immediate priorities include strengthening customer and distribution relationships, expanding commercial opportunities for existing products and developing ingredients that address changing formulation requirements. It did not identify the next bioactives in its development pipeline or provide launch dates in the financing announcement.
“DMC has built a differentiated technology platform with the potential to address meaningful opportunities in the health ingredients market,” said Andras Forgacs, a DMC board member and Founder and Managing Partner of Inceptional Partners. “With its initial products established, the company is positioned to build on that foundation and execute its next phase of commercial growth. This investment reflects confidence in the team, the technology and the long-term opportunity.”
Alongside its ingredient portfolio, DMC has continued to participate in industrial biotechnology infrastructure development. In September, Biotech Open Platform, an initiative established by DMC, Danone, Michelin, Crédit Agricole Centre France, Clermont Auvergne Innovation and Greentech, inaugurated its facility in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
The platform provides fermentation, purification and bioprocess development capabilities for companies moving processes from laboratory development toward industrial production. Its equipment includes a fermentation line with capacity of up to 15,000 liters, alongside purification systems intended to support process validation and production of material for application testing.
That initiative is open to startups, industrial businesses and research organizations beyond its founding partners. DMC’s proprietary Dynamic Metabolic Control technology is designed to make fermentation processes more predictable, robust and efficient at industrial scale, according to the company’s description in the platform announcement.
The latest funding announcement centers on DMC’s own health ingredients business. It gives the company capital to pursue wider adoption of its existing commercial portfolio while adding new products, although DMC did not disclose a valuation, financing structure or breakdown of how the US$18 million would be allocated.
