Angel Yeast chairman highlights yeast protein growth and global expansion as company marks 40 years
Angel Yeast has marked its 40th anniversary with Chairman Xiong Tao reflecting on the company's evolution from a yeast producer serving the baking industry to a global biotechnology business focused on nutrition, food ingredients, and international expansion.
• Angel Yeast marked its 40th anniversary with Chairman Xiong Tao outlining the company's progress in yeast-derived ingredients, global expansion, and innovation.
• The company highlighted growing opportunities for yeast protein, including applications in sports nutrition, foods for special medical purposes, and vegan products.
• Angel Yeast expanded its international footprint through a research and development center in Belgium and a new manufacturing facility under construction in Indonesia.
Over the past 40 years, Angel Yeast has expanded the availability of yeast products to consumers worldwide through large-scale manufacturing and ongoing product development. According to the company, these efforts have helped modernize traditional fermentation processes while making home baking more accessible.
Alongside its baking business, Angel Yeast has broadened its portfolio of yeast-derived ingredients, including yeast extracts for savory food applications and yeast protein products aimed at nutrition markets.
The company highlighted growing demand for yeast extracts as food manufacturers seek solutions that can help balance flavor and nutrition. It also pointed to the increasing role of yeast protein as an alternative protein ingredient.
"Yeast protein is becoming a new fermented protein source for the nutrition industry. It is moving toward large-scale application, expanding from traditional sectors such as baking, meat products, and dairy to emerging areas such as sports nutrition, foods for special medical purposes, and vegan foods. In the future, it is expected to see wider use around the world, and we are committed to making quality protein accessible and affordable for everyone," said Xiong.
Angel Yeast's yeast protein ingredient, Angeopro, contains more than 80% protein and is being promoted as a high-quality protein source for a range of food and nutrition applications.
The anniversary reflections also highlighted the company's environmental initiatives and efforts to integrate sustainability into its operations.
In 2025, Angel Yeast received an EcoVadis Silver rating, placing it among the top 15% of organizations assessed globally. The company reported that it has developed a circular production model in which agricultural raw materials are converted into food ingredients while production byproducts are redirected into agricultural applications.
The company has also invested in renewable energy sources, including solar power and biomass, and established a full-life-cycle carbon footprint management system designed to support lower-carbon production processes.
Beyond sustainability, international expansion remains a key strategic priority.
As global supply chains and customer requirements become increasingly complex, Angel Yeast has continued investing in regional infrastructure intended to strengthen local support and product development capabilities.
To support European customers, the company established a research and development center in Belgium focused on products tailored to local market preferences. It is also building a manufacturing facility in Indonesia, which is expected to strengthen service capabilities across South Asia and other international markets.
"In the future, we will continue our overseas development philosophy of 'localizing for the local market,' bringing our supply chain closer to customers while also creating local jobs and supporting technological upgrading and industrial development," said Xiong.
Looking ahead, Angel Yeast identified innovation as one of its most important growth drivers. The company sees opportunities across several segments of the yeast industry, including natural flavor solutions based on yeast extracts, yeast protein as a novel protein source, and culture media used in biopharmaceutical applications.
Xiong said continued investment in manufacturing capacity, research and development, and local market expertise would be central to the company's future plans.
"Innovation has always been at the heart of Angel Yeast's growth. As we look ahead, we will continue to strengthen our global manufacturing and R&D network, deepen our understanding of local markets, and invest in the capabilities needed to serve customers around the world. At the same time, we remain committed to attracting, developing, and retaining talented people, recognizing that their expertise and creativity are essential to the company's long-term success," he said.
The anniversary milestone comes as yeast-derived ingredients continue attracting attention across food, nutrition, and biotechnology sectors, with companies exploring new applications for fermentation-based proteins, flavor ingredients, and functional products. For Angel Yeast, the company reported that its next phase of growth will be built on a combination of international expansion, sustainability initiatives, and continued innovation across its yeast-based portfolio.
