future of protein production with plates with healthy food and protein

81 companies shortlisted for PPTI's 27 Food-Techs to Watch in 2027

September 23, 2026

Protein Production Technology International has revealed the shortlist for its 27 Food-Techs to Watch in 2027, with 81 companies selected from 379 nominated during this year's campaign. PPTI's editorial team reviewed every nomination before drawing up the shortlist, as part of a process that also involved members of the PPTI Advisory Board.

The shortlist brings together companies working across precision and biomass fermentation, cultivated food, plant proteins, fats and oils, functional ingredients, downstream processing, AI, automation and biomanufacturing infrastructure.

Public voting is now open, with voters asked to select a minimum of five and maximum of 10 companies they believe most deserve a place in the final 27.

“We've been genuinely taken aback by the response this year,” said Nick Bradley, Co-founder & Editorial Director of FPG Media and Editor of Protein Production Technology International. “To have 379 companies nominated shows just how much interesting work is going on across this industry.

“Last year's campaign attracted more than 13,500 votes, which was far more than we expected when we launched it. Judging by the response we've had already this year, I think we're going to go well past that.”

81 companies have been shortlisted for PPTI's 27 Food-Techs to Watch in 2027, spanning ingredients, fermentation, cultivated food, plant proteins and enabling technologies.
Voters can select a minimum of five and maximum of 10 companies they believe deserve a place in the final 27.
The final 27 will be announced at Future of Protein Production Amsterdam on 4-5 November and profiled in PPTI's Q4 edition on 16 December.

There are familiar names on the shortlist, but plenty that may be new to PPTI readers.

Now we want the industry to have its say. Take a look through the 81 companies below, follow the links to find out more about their work, and decide which ones you believe deserve a place in the final 27.

“This isn't simply about picking the biggest companies or the names people already know,” Bradley added. “What I really enjoyed last year was seeing where some of the exposure led. Companies made new connections, developed partnerships and had conversations with investors after appearing in the feature.

It's a genuinely international shortlist, too, with companies from across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, Africa and South America.

There is plenty of variety in maturity, too, from young startups still proving their technology to businesses already producing at commercial scale.

“From my side, I ended up interviewing founders of companies I'd never come across before," Bradley said. "We were able to put a spotlight on businesses doing some fascinating work that might ordinarily struggle to make the headlines.

“And that's a big part of what I love about it. We end up with an edition of the magazine we could never have planned ourselves. The industry tells us who we should be talking to, and we go and tell their stories.

“So I'd encourage people to spend some time with the full shortlist, click through to the company websites and see what they're working on. You might find a few names you weren't expecting to vote for.”

Voting remains open until 11:59pm on 23 October 2026.

The results will be revealed at Future of Protein Production Amsterdam on 4-5 November, with the 27 selected companies featured in PPTI's Q4 edition on 16 December.
