Pureture introduces new plant-based protein comparable to dairy for muscle recovery and growth

October 29, 2024

New York-based biotech company Pureture has developed a plant-based protein that offers nutritional benefits similar to traditional animal-based proteins, such as casein and whey, for supporting muscle recovery and growth. In response to common limitations with plant-based proteins, Pureture’s latest innovation uses yeast to create a protein with a complete amino acid profile, addressing key gaps found in single-source plant proteins.

Many plant-based proteins lack certain essential amino acids—like leucine, isoleucine, valine (BCAAs), and methionine—which are critical for muscle support. Pureture’s yeast protein has been formulated to include these essential amino acids, with over 50% of its profile composed of these vital nutrients. This complete amino acid content brings it closer to dairy proteins in terms of muscle-support benefits and provides emulsification properties similar to casein, making it a versatile option for food and beverage formulations.

In addition to its balanced amino acid profile, Pureture has worked to improve the absorption of its protein, aiming to create a more efficient plant-based alternative for those looking to support muscle development. “Our goal is to provide a plant-based protein that performs on par with animal-based proteins,” said Rudy Yoo, CEO and Founder of Pureture. “As a New York-based company, we’re proud to deliver a clean-label, sustainable option that addresses the increasing demand for plant-based nutrition options.”

As Pureture continues refining its yeast protein, it is currently focused on improving taste and aroma through proprietary strain development. The company’s production process is entering a small-scale phase, which will support further product development and testing. To fund its next stage of growth, Pureture is preparing for a fundraising initiative. Participation in industry programs such as the 1871 Food Tech Innovation Lab and Plug and Play Japan has provided Pureture with resources to accelerate these advancements, and the company is open to collaboration with investors and partners who share a commitment to innovation in the alternative protein field.

Pureture’s Non-GMO yeast protein is designed to meet the needs of various consumers, from vegans and those with lactose intolerance to anyone focused on supporting muscle development. Additionally, Pureture has developed a clean-label protein shake using its casein-alternative protein. This shake, which contains just four ingredients—Pureture yeast protein, zero sugar, cocoa, and water—provides a straightforward option for those looking for plant-based protein without added sugars or artificial ingredients.

As the company moves forward, it aims to set a new benchmark for plant-based protein products, contributing to a growing range of sustainable, health-focused nutrition options.
