Middle East’s first plant based meat factory opens in Dubai

March 18, 2023

The IFFCO Group, a UAE-based food products company, has opened the first 100% plant-based meat factory in the Middle East, located in Dubai Industrial City. The factory will produce healthy and sustainable local plant-based meat products that cater to 30% of the GCC population, stimulating the development of the regional market for plant-based food products. The facility contributes to Dubai’s economic diversification and the goal of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 to consolidate the Emirate’s status as one of the top three global cities.

Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said the 100% plant-based meat factory supports the UAE’s Food Security Strategy and our mandate to mitigate the impact of climate change.

The factory aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the UAE’s Vision 2051 initiative to bolster food security through diversity and innovation. The plant-based venture, developed using cutting-edge food technology, contributes to at least three UN’s SDGs: good health and well-being, responsible consumption and production, and climate action.

The IFFCO Group’s THRYVE factory is the only 100% plant-based meat factory in the Middle East and will help move towards a more sustainable and healthy food chain in the region.
