JELL-O launches first plant-based chocolate pudding, tapping into growing demand for dairy-free desserts
JELL-O, a brand synonymous with classic American desserts for over 125 years, has unveiled its first-ever plant-based product: oat milk chocolate pudding. The new offering, which is now rolling out at retailers across the USA, is both vegan and lactose-free, marking a significant milestone not only for JELL-O but also for parent company Kraft Heinz as it enters the plant-based dessert category for the first time.
Made with oat milk – the fastest-growing dairy alternative in the USA – the new pudding is designed to replicate JELL-O’s signature creamy texture and rich chocolate taste, while catering to the increasing number of consumers seeking dairy-free options. According to Kraft Heinz, the product is also gluten-free and aimed at addressing a broad range of dietary preferences and restrictions.
“JELL-O has always set the standard for creamy and great-tasting desserts that families across the country can enjoy,” said Lauren Gumbiner, Associate Director of Marketing Desserts at The Kraft Heinz Company. “As our fans’ diets and preferences change, we’re evolving our portfolio alongside them.”
Milk allergies affect nearly two million children in the USA, and over 30% of Americans experience lactose intolerance. At the same time, demand for plant-based desserts continues to grow at a double-digit pace. While pudding remains a popular treat, Kraft Heinz says current dairy-free options have struggled to meet consumer expectations on taste and texture. By launching a mainstream, plant-based alternative under the JELL-O brand, the company hopes to fill that gap.
The launch also pays homage to JELL-O’s history. Chocolate was the brand’s first-ever pudding flavor, introduced in the 1930s. The new oat milk version continues that legacy, offering a familiar flavor in a contemporary format.
