Future Ocean Foods welcomes 17 new members as it approaches one-year anniversary
Future Ocean Foods, the world's first and only alternative seafood association, has announced the addition of 17 new members to its global organization. As the association approaches its one-year anniversary in November 2024, its membership base has expanded to 53 companies in 17 countries worldwide.
"I am incredibly proud of the passionate, collaborative community we have built, and I am thrilled to welcome these 17 new innovative companies to our group," commented Marissa Bronfman, Founder and Executive Director of Future Ocean Foods. "It’s an honor to work alongside so many brilliant, pioneering people working tirelessly to feed the planet and save our oceans."
Despite a challenging economic climate, Bronfman expressed optimism about the future of alternative seafood. "I've never been more optimistic about the future of alternative seafood," she stated.
New members include Beleaf (USA), Bluu (Germany), The Cultivated B (Germany), Forsea (Israel), Happy Ocean Foods (Germany), Liven Protein (Canada), Mimic Seafood (Spain), Monkeys By The Sea (The Netherlands), Mermade Seafood (Israel), Nutrition From Water (Portugal), Oceanium (UK), Ocean Hugger Foods (USA), Olala! Foods (France), Profillet (Canada), Steakholder Foods (Israel), Sustineri Piscis (Brazil) and Upstream Foods (The Netherlands).
Future Ocean Foods is a global network of companies dedicated to promoting food security, human health, environmental sustainability, and ocean conservation. Its members span plant-based, fermentation, and cultivated food and technologies.
"FOF is the only place when we as ocean activists can collaborate towards a healthy ocean, I am a proud founding member," commented Ofek Ron, Co-Founder & CEO of Oshi.
Deniz Ficicioglu, Co-Founder & CEO of Bettaf!sh, echoed Ron's sentiments, praising the community that Bronfman has built. "Every monthly meetup is a powerful hour of learning, sharing, and gaining real-world insights from fellow ocean enthusiasts," Ficicioglu said.
The association's work is particularly urgent given the pressing challenges facing the world's oceans. With a predicted total collapse of global fisheries by 2048 due to human-led destruction and climate change, the need for sustainable seafood solutions is more critical than ever.
"The global seafood industry is projected to surpass US$700 billion by 2030, however wild catch and aquaculture simply cannot – and should not – fulfil this demand," said Bronfman. "As we prepare for a future population of 10 billion people by 2050, the need for creating and scaling sustainable protein sources has never been more urgent."
Future Ocean Foods is committed to driving innovation and accelerating the adoption of alternative seafood solutions to help address these challenges and ensure a sustainable future for our oceans.
