August 6, 2024

Burcon NutraScience Corporation, a global technology leader in the development of plant-based proteins for foods and beverages, has announced the successful completion of its first end-to-end validation trial for producing high-purity, nutritionally complete canola protein isolate at its partner manufacturer's facility.

Burcon has achieved a significant milestone in the commercialization of its canola protein technology. Executing its capital-light strategy, the company successfully launched and commercially produced its best-in-class canola protein to meet the growing demand for this unique ingredient. Burcon expects to optimize its canola process, ramp up production and fulfil customer orders in the coming months.

"Due to significant customer interest in our canola protein, we decided to move up our launch and production timeline by six months," said Kip Underwood, Burcon's CEO. "This one-of-a-kind protein ingredient offers functional and nutritional properties that can enhance food formulations. We are excited to bring our canola protein to market and look forward to collaborating with prospective customers."

Burcon's Puratein C canola protein isolate delivers an exceptional combination of taste, nutrition and functionality for food and beverage applications. Extracted from non-GMO, Canadian-grown canola seeds, it boasts a nutritionally complete amino acid profile, containing all nine essential amino acids and a protein digestibility amino acid score (PDCAAS) of 1. With over 90% protein purity, a neutral flavor, high solubility across a broad pH range, superior foaming, and exceptional functionality, this protein isolate is a game-changer.
